Art Direction / ‘Now Now Oh Now’
This spring, Michelle was asked by the Rude Mechanicals to build out the inside of two dioramas used in the original production, ‘Now now Oh Now’. Each diorama was intended to be in a ‘naturalistic’ tradition.
The dioramas were constructed once for a workshop production and again for the actual performances of the ‘finished’ script. This play had a number of sets as well as art directors for each transition. One diorama represents the mountainous rain forests of Papau New Guinea and the bower nest of the Bower bird, and the other, a beach of the Galapagos islands and Darwin’s theory of evolution.
The Rude Mechanicals are a notorious and noteworthy collaborative team of actors, writers, artists and musicians who have been working together in Austin since the late 1990′s. ‘Now Now Oh Now‘, is an original three act play performed this spring, 2012 and is destined to tour. This company pays very close attention to all aspects of its work and it is an honor to have been asked to flesh out this vision.
