This installation is approximately 30 feet long and includes burnished plaster, acrylic paint and hand applied metal leaf.

This painting was constructed and improvised on site with special attention given to the rhythm of movement as the colors mellow on one end and open vibrantly at the other.

I wanted to give special attention to texture here to emulate natural forms and treat each shape as if it were a glittering mineral deposit on the surface of a cliff. To conjure heath and beauty as it is found in nature.

Decorated Ceiling Coffers

Each of these ceiling coffers is decorated with a hand painted motif inspired by embroidered textiles from around the world.

This is the heart of the home and was designed to be a bright and energetic compliment for this family room.

Each rectangular ceiling surface is painted in a slight variation of jewel toned blue.

This was hand designed, painted and gilded and reflects the extensive textile collection of the client.

Hair Smith

This salon was originally named ‘Studio 303′ and has since been converted to the headquarters of Bunkhouse Management In Austin Texas, ceiling mural still in tact (as far as we know).

This is a Chinese lattice design blown up and re-worked to fit into this small area and give the room a lot of punch. Each detail was hand perfected and painted. The design was a collaboration between the client and Red Start. The bright white we chose is generously applied over a mat black to give dimension and shine to varying angles of the room.

Martha’s Vineyard Children’s Room

Friend and fellow designer, Tracey Overbeck-Stead asked us to design a room for her young sons based on the family’s summer getaway on Martha’s Vineyard. This project gave Michelle the opportunity to integrate her drawing skills into the overall mural.

The room includes details such as sea creatures, kelp, tumbling seaweed and a schooner tumbling around the room and hiding behind the door and tucked below the windows.

Private Residence

This ceiling piece disguised as wallpaper is actually a hand painted grid. The attention to detail here was no small feat. Our design was intended to fool the eye. We used varying sheens to create subtle depth.

The simple Kelley green and bright white color scheme keeps this a timeless and crisp design.

The adjacent wall compliments with hand silver gilded palm leaves on a green plane. The free floating leaves echo wallpapers from the popular Hollywood Regency era.

Cenote

Cenote is a cafe and eatery located in east Austin. This project involved a complete overhaul from a 19th century church into a lively, comfortable space. As interior designer, this project included the entire spectrum of the layout including seating, lighting design, color decisions, bar set up and branding. We used many salvaged materials including the floorboards themselves to make the long-leaf pine tables and a deconstructed rocking chair as a room divider.

The centerpiece of the cafe design is a mural inspired by wallpapers of the buildings original era, scaled up for this contemporary setting.

Kirk Gallery

Kirk gallery commissioned this work to compliment it’s collection of Modern sculpture, furniture, and fine art.

This piece is approximately 40 feet wide and 14 feet tall. It’s curved form was inspired by the very well known Verner Panton ‘S’ chair, first produced in 1960. We abstracted the chair form and pulled vibrant colors from popular interior design of the era and its ‘radical and psychedelic interiors’.

This was a collaboration between Red Start’s Michelle Marchesseault and artist, Virginia Yount. In 2012, the work was included in a multi-venued art installation program in which Virginia and Michelle collaborated on an addition to the piece and titled it, “Only the Good Die Young”. The venue and work included were nominated for the 2010 Critics’ Table award in visual art.

Rattle Inn

This approximately 65 foot mural was our best shot at paying homage to the master wildlife artist, Les Kouba and his unmatched ability to render beautifully detailed wildlife scenery. Designer, Joel Mozersky requested Texas landscape in Les’ style, as he painted for the Schlitz beer packaging in the 1960′s and 70′s.The panels were painted off site and installed to fit above faux snakeskin booths. We included native Texas reptiles, East Texas pines, paddle cactus and a West dessert vista.

Big Feathers

This installation spans approximately 25 feet and floats overhead to compliment a natural feathered light fixture.

It has a base of a subtle slate grey laced with glittering metals.

Hand designed, painted and gilded.
